About the Saskatchewan Cattle Association

The Saskatchewan Cattle Association is the unified voice for Saskatchewan’s beef cattle industry. The Association works to promote and develop the provincial beef sector through advocacy, research, communications, producer engagement, industry partnerships, and programs that support a sustainable, competitive, and profitable future for cattle producers.

Guided by a producer-led Board of Directors, the Association represents the interests of Saskatchewan cattle producers with government, industry partners, researchers, consumers, and the broader Canadian beef value chain.

The Opportunity

The Saskatchewan Cattle Association is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and results-oriented Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization through its next phase of growth and impact. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to advance the Association’s mandate, strengthen producer value, and ensure the organization remains an influential and trusted voice for Saskatchewan’s cattle industry.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership experience, sound financial and governance acumen, a deep understanding of agriculture and livestock production, and the ability to build effective relationships with producers, government, industry associations, and national partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic leadership: Partner with the Board to develop strategic priorities that support thelong-term success of Saskatchewan cattle producers and the beef industry. 
  • Producer engagement: Maintain strong connections with producers across Saskatchewan, ensuringproducer priorities and regional perspectives inform the Association’s work.
  • Advocacy and policy: Represent the Association with provincial and federal governments, regulatorybodies, industry organizations, and other stakeholders on policy, marketaccess, animal health, traceability, environmental stewardship, business riskmanagement, and other priority issues.
  • Organizational management: Lead staff, consultants, programs, and operations to ensure effective servicedelivery, accountability, and alignment with Board direction.
  • Financial stewardship: Oversee budgeting, financial management, levy-funded operations, reporting, and risk management in accordance with sound governance and accountability practices.
  • Partnership development: Build and maintain productive relationships with provincial and national cattleorganizations, research institutions, commodity groups, government agencies,and supply chain partners.
  • Communications and reputation: Serve as a credible spokesperson for the Association and support clear, timely,and effective communications with members, media, stakeholders, and the public.
  • Governance support: Provide the Board with timely information, strategic advice, performancereporting, and support for effective decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Senior leadership experience in agriculture, livestock, producer associations, government relations, non-profit management, agribusiness, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Saskatchewan’s beef cattle sector, including cow-calf, backgrounding, feeding, grazing, animal health, market, regulatory, and environmental issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors and within a governance-led organization.
  • Proven experience in advocacy, stakeholder relations, policy development, and public representation.
  • Financial literacy, including budgeting, reporting, oversight of levy or member-funded programs, and responsible resource allocation.
  • Excellent communication skills, including public speaking, media relations, written communication, and producer engagement.
  • Ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a dynamic, politically sensitive environment.
  • Post-secondary education in agriculture, business, public policy, communications, or a related discipline is preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Compensation and Location

The Saskatchewan Cattle Association offers a competitive executive compensation package commensurate with experience. The role is based in Regina, Saskatchewan, with flexibility for hybrid work and regular travel to meet with producers, partners, government officials, and industry stakeholders.
