Innovation Saskatchewan launches ACRE program to support on-farm innovation
Innovation Saskatchewan has launched the Agtech Commercialization Readiness (ACRE) program, providing new opportunities to test agricultural technology directly on Saskatchewan farms and ranches.
The program offers up to $30,000 in funding to Saskatchewan agricultural technology companies for pilot projects developed in partnership with producers and industry organizations.
These projects allow companies to test and improve their technologies in real farming conditions, while giving participating producers early access to new tools and an opportunity to provide feedback before they become widely available.
What Does This Mean for Cattle Producers?
For Saskatchewan's cattle industry, the program could help advance practical solutions to challenges such as animal health, animal identification, water quality, forage productivity and production efficiency.
Saskatchewan Cattle Association (SCA) Research Chair Christine Strube welcomed the announcement, emphasizing the important role producers play in agricultural innovation.
“Cattle producers are the original innovators, and producers are increasingly interested in using innovative tools with practical, on-farm applications that can address concerns such as animal identification, environmental sustainability, water quality, animal health, and forage productivity. The SCA is extremely pleased to see this type of investment in innovation that can be adopted on-farm to improve production efficiency,” said Christine Strube, Saskatchewan Cattle Association Research Chair.
SCA recognizes the importance of research and innovation that respond to producer needs, support efficient operations and contribute to the long-term success of Saskatchewan's cattle industry.
Applications for the ACRE program are now open.
